Found this post when I wanted to know whether there's lik homeopathic for Guinea pigs. Just a note for myself. Although most Guinea pig owners are quite paranoid.. I do believe it's possible as dogs can too. Just probably a lower dosage.

The Mini Herd Guinea Piggies Bath Time!!

This is the first time all three of them have their bath together and I can say.. they're more calm compare to when I'm bathing them one by one. Started noticing that Fuyu's bum is getting more and more shifty colour and Aya became sooooo green today.. which resulted in this bath time. Heh! The also have been scratching recently.. that means... it's time for IVERMECTIN!

What's that? Their weight? Yep... here goes..

Yep... AYA IS THE HEAVIEST NOW!!!! THE YOUNGEST BABY IS THE HEAVIEST!!! Well, weighing is very important. It tells you whether your babies are growing healthily or not and in this case.. we are gonna apply topical ivermectin on them. So, it's very important to know their weight.

I found out about this topical product of Vietnam from The Asshole's dad. Apparently, it works very well not only in small animals, but dogs, cats and birds too. It's the ivermectin with some solution that made it topical. This is my first time experimenting with this product. It's very cheap.

When we brought our baby Loki home.. he already has a few problems hanging on him.. he was infested with loads of tick and some allergies at his tail, as well as his front right paws. 

***My knowledge about dogs is almost close to 0% at the time. I never would've thought I had to go through "Karma" experience again. We'll get to that later..***

My brothers were pretty much ignorant, that also applies to my parents because they wouldn't want any hand in this. The only thing I manage to prepare before we bring Loki home was his basics needs. Luckily, I bought this flea & tick shampoo to bath him. As we all know, this is not enough to protect him. We needed to clean the house.. PERIOD! However, I did not have enough time for that.. I guess I was ignorant too because I played a lot with baby Loki when I was home.

***I miss him so much... I wish I had gone home earlier to be with him..***

I tried to get the Frontline flea & tick spot on.. but baby Loki is till very little to be administered such poison to his delicate skin. We also started wiping the floor with Dettol. He hates the smell.. Sorry baby.

They are known for their unusually rough coat with tufts, called rosettes.  The Abyssinian has about 6 to 8 rosettes throughout its body, including the back and both sides. The only places rosettes are absent are their bellies and heads.

Vitamin C is the most important vitamin your cavies needs. It is a water soluble vitamin. Unlike Vitamin A, K, D and E it cannot be stored within the body and is excreted through your cavies urine. Guinea pigs require 10-30 mg/kg of vitamin C daily to maintain optimum health and development. Pregnant, lactating and young cavies require a higher amount of this vitamin. Suggested amounts include 30-50mg/kg however always check with a qualified exotics veterinarian or nutritionist before increasing this amount vastly. Capsicum, grass and dark leafy green vegetables are excellent sources of absorbic Acid.

The Dunkin-Hartley strain, developed by the British, is the most widely used in laboratories. It is almost always an albino with short, smooth hair. A second type of guinea pig, the Abyssinian, has short, rough hair that grows in rosettes. The present day Peruvian type of guinea pig, with long hair, is seldom used in research.

When she was still a baby... she tends to freeze when her treats is on her head or anything.. over time, she seems very nervous when you touch her head but... one day, we just decided to try it during bonding time.. and voila! Hahahaha! Cute as ever!

Natsu.. this baby, is the hardest to please. She won't let you catch her. She's as fast as lightning and still as cute as ever. She still has a chipmunk face. Bonding with this lady really takes time..

and the truth is that... I have pets because they can keep secrets, we can have tea party anytime and they're always there until the end of their lives. My time can be occupied not only with books, but also with my furry friends... I even learned how to nurse them when they're sick.

Part 1: Losing Hair

Nera has been tested for Fur Mites as well as Fungal issue. Both of which also have been ruled out. But.. I have red somewhere, that skin scrapes results can be wrong. More to that, it will only cause unnecessary pain to your baby, so it is not recommended! Nera had to go trough that twice and still... the doctors can not find anything. They later rule that it could be fungal. By the time, I was very concern because not only Nera is losing hairs, she's losing weight as well! I lost Nera to inexperienced exotic pet doctors and my own personal lack of experience. I came back one day, only to find my baby lying lifeless looking as if she has been suffering before she finally fall asleep. I have been charged and charged with exotic pet veterinarian consultations which cost MYR30 - MYR40 each time yet nothing explains Nera's possible health declining. I blamed myself for being too late or making an assumption that Nera will be okay.. I was wrong...

Lice & Mange Mites
This is the very first possibility you need to rule in before all others. It is the most common reasons your baby starts scratching deliriously. If you suspect your guinea pigs to have them.. get them treated with ivermectin immediately. You need multiple doses because ivermectin does not kill the eggs. Mange Mites that burrows under the skin and cause severe pains. It also life threatening on severe cases.

Possible symptoms:

• scratching
• biting
• hair loss
• seizures (Serious Cases)

Signs:

• thinning and/or patchy loss of hair
• scurfing of the skin (may resemble dandruff)
• open sores as a result of extreme scratching
• biting which aggravates the hair loss
• become less friendly
• reluctant to interact with its owner

Death can occur due to severe dehydration from the increasingly larger sores and from failure to eat, because of their extreme pain and discomfort. In a healthy animal, the mite may be dormant for months or years, becoming a problem in a pregnant guinea pigs or one subject to illness or stress. The most serious infestations occur in the young and ill older animals subject to stress and poor environmental conditions, usually on the trunk. The response in healthy animals is less severe, perhaps due to grooming or suppressed immune response (Harkness and Wagner). - Via Guinea Lynx on Mange Mites

Treatments:
Generally treated with ivermectin by injection, orally, or topically (usually placed on the skin behind the ears because the fur is so thick). Two or more doses spaced 7 to 10 days apart are required. Ivermectin appears to be safe used on pregnant guinea pigs but is best not used on guinea pigs under 12 ounces (approx. 340 grams).
