Cleaning Guinea Pigs Cages

Do you that GP's pee smells almost as worst as human's? Oh gosh! I can't believe it either but I have experience this ever since I started using towels for my girls.

Previously, I was using a lemon scented wood shavings for the girls. I read somewhere that wood shavings might have an unwanted effect their respiratory.

Not only that, when they're play chasing, these girls tend to kick their bedding and shit off the cage and.. it's not cheap if you constantly have to purchase them.

Hence, why I changed them to towels + it's more economical as I can wash and re-use. I bought them at RM5 only in Tesco. Large size too! Daiso have them too but they're too small. The problem is that, it's a hassle. You have to make sure you wash them after 2-3 days depending on how dirty they are and what if you're home late? You still have to! I prefer cleaning them after 2 days because I can't stand seeing it all wet and dirty (the girls like to mess with their hays.. and talking bout their uncontrollable butt-hole..).

Choosing your Bedding
  • Wood: Aspen shavings, pine shavings, and pine pellets
  • Paper: Processed paper products (Recommended)
  • Hay & Others: Hay, Towels, and EnviroTiles (Recommended)
AVOID!: Cedar, corncob bedding, straw, etc.

How I Clean The Girls Cages
  1. Clean up all the shits (poop, hays, and more poop)
  2. Remove bedding towel
  3. Disinfect using animal friendly disinfectant
  4. Put 2 layers of newspaper as base
  5. Put on 2 layers of newspapers in between the towels
  6. Roll on sticky to remove dust

And that's how I got happy pigs!
